Shelter Island

I can't even believe that I have never been to this location, although it's less than an hour east...much closer than NYC. I plan on going back as often as possible!
 PALS did a good job of getting to the ferry, and the ferry ride was a big surprise...it was all of 3 minutes!...heck, I think we could have swam across!
There were hundreds of locations waiting to be painted there, and we settled in and enjoyed our panoramic views. We  met a few locals, very friendly, enjoyed lunch and friendship in a pretty gazebo and took lots of photos too.

PALS had perfect weather and wonderful company, and I think we all went home with a happy painting! What more can we ask for. Life is good.

Kaler's Pond 9/15/12

Happy Worldwide Paint Out Day!

It was a wonderful feeling to be outside painting en Plein Air at a glistening pond under the shade trees while listening to the ducks squabble a few feet away. All the while knowing that we are part of a larger world, a bigger picture, and in unison, as we peacefully paint at the same time as so many artists around the world! Thank you Chris Taylor for finding this great location for PALS and thank you www.InternationalPleinAirPainters.org

Bayard Dahlia Gardens 9/11/12

Wow! Thats the word of the day! Love this place! We had a nice winding stroll through the grounds, surrounded by magnificent trees, and then our view opened up on to a gorgeous colorful Dahlia Garden. Dahlias of every color and shape and size! Amazing! Can't wait to go back!

Peconic Herb Garden 8/28/12

This special place is one of my all time favorite locations to paint and to shop!
I came home with a painting and a car full of beach grass plants and flowers!

Sunflower Field 8/21/12

Some of you may not realize the behind the scenes thought and research that goes in to picking the right location at the right time...but after a search all the way to the end of Long Island, Chris Taylor and I clocked 100 miles (yes, really) before finding a rare sight this year...a Sunflower Field!

       PALS had a great time,painting one of my personal favorite subjects...Sun flowers....we couldn't get inside the field, because of the threat of poison ivy, so I scratched that itch on the way home, stopping at our local farm stand buying a fistful of huge sunflowers, so I could happily paint some more!

   Love Summer on Long Island!

   

Jeanettes Garden 8/14/12

What a sweet and lovely garden! PALS was graciously invited to the precious garden of fellow artist Jeanette Fisher. Thank you for the invite Jeanette!  Bright colorful flowers everywhere, all tended to with care and love!  We were even treated to a tour of her art studio.

We painted peacefully, enjoying every moment, when a few of us groaned at one time! Seems our focal point, unbeknownst to her, Liz, under her white umbrella, got up and walked away! Well, that's a lesson to remember, paint what may move ...FIRST!!!

Ireland

While PALS was busy painting in NY...I was busy Plein air painting in beautiful Ireland!
I traveled a few hours south of Dublin, to the wonderful town of Wexford and met up with over a hundred artists participating in www.ArtintheOpen.org a beautifully organized painting week, thanks to Tony Robinson, Neil, Kevin, Karin and lots more people working hard behind the scenes.

                                       

We painted morning and night...and I mean night! I fell in love with nocturne painting, and I hope PALS will get a chance to go out and experience this together! (Thanks for lending me your headlight Larry!) We travelled to a different location daily, and further south to Hook Head light house. Amazing.  I painted in the sun, and cold, and wind, and rain, and pouring rain! I loved every minute! I participated in my first quick draw, in the streets with tons of people, and it was exhilarating. All of the artists were part of a huge show (over 250 plein air paintings, all painted that week) in stunning Green Acres Gallery,Wexford, Ireland. I left a few paintings on the walls there, as the show is still on! I felt so privileged to be part of such an amazing artistic experience. I loved all the people I met, and I am humbled and so inspired by all of the talent that I witnessed there.

Rose Meadow Farm July 24, 2012

Sometimes at first glance we can miss a diamond right under our very nose..Rose Meadow is a special place that I have driven by many times...I can't wait to go back and paint again some day! This is actually a very interesting place, they grow roses in their green houses and ship them across the United States...now who doesn't love receiving roses! Well, we painted in the front portion of the property and it was lovely! Thank you so much Monica and to the owner, Michael!

Sunken Forest in Sailors Haven, Fire Island 7/17/12

Now this was a hot and humid day!...91degrees but it felt like 100 on Long Island...but a breezy ferry ride whisked us across the calm bay to this enchanted 300 year old Sunken Forest. We welcomed the shade and enjoyed the dappled sunlight as we meandered along the endless wooden boardwalk, stopping every few feet to take another photo. The wonders of nature never ceases to amaze me!

Avalon Park and Preserve 7/7/12

PALS has painted in the Stony Brook area many times, and the Duck pond on 25A is a favorite spot...but right there hiding from plain sight is Avalon Park. What an oasis of beauty. We only ventured across the wooden bridge and up the stone steps when we came upon a magical pond and little forest with dappled light shining through the trees. It is one of those places thats makes me wonder, "Where have I been, how have I missed visiting such a peaceful and special place?" PALS will definetly be back to paint some more!
