Avalon Flower Fields July 29, 2014

Love, love, love this place! Now who's idea was it to plant all these seeds and nurture all these flowers, and make wonderful paths for us to enjoy? Simply genius! Thank you from the bottom of our artistic hearts!

Plein air painting seems like a serene way to spend a summer afternoon. You can see artists at work around Long Island -- but why not join them? The Plein Air Limner Society meets every week at a different outdoor spot for members to paint, sketch or photograph -- all skill levels welcome ($25 annual membership, 631-241-3749, palspleinair.blogspot.com).

Ammann Riverfront Park July 22, 2014

This location is a gem. Thanks for suggesting it Donna! A wonderful waterfront in downtown Riverhead, with walkways, trees, boats, kayaks, even a fisherman! Interesting buildings, and it's also home of the East End Arts Council,
We had a wonderful time , PALS painting in all directions...then we went on a nice stroll together, and ended up having a fabulous lunch together! Artists who paint together, eat together! Love it!

White Cap Fish Market July 15, 2014

This location was what I call a "search". Although there were boats and flowers, you really had to search for your painting. Last year it was more colorful with interesting signs and lots of colorful buoys, old barn wood and some rustic buildings. This year it had a lot of fresh white paint and less color...so we all had to "search".
Some of my favorite paintings come from locations where I have no clue what to paint, nothing is obvious, it  takes concentration, and causes an artist to really "see". It's a great thing to do...to stop and "see"...and then, there's "artistic license", we can just add any color,

                                                                      Michelle

paint in some colorful buoys, or a bluer sky, or ....well...anything we want! I love being an artist!

A Taste of Plein Air

Today was "A Taste of Plein Air" workshop, that I put together by request from a few gals from North Carolina who were coming up for a vacation on Long Island.
It was a wonderful way to mix the local scenery, with their interest in art and learning something new while enjoying each others friendship.
I mean, don't we all want to try watercolor? ...and sit on a beach or by the bay, or by a lake or stream, or in a garden, or forest? Don't we all want to try something new? Why not PLEIN AIR!
I will walk you step by step into the exciting world of Plein Air watercolor!!
So gather a few friends, and e-mail me for details,  info@PALSPleinAir.com
and we will have a   fantastic time!!
NO Experience needed!! and you will go home with your very own painting,
painted by you....
ready to hang on your wall!

Port Jefferson Harbor July 1, 2014

This was a real surprise location. After we arrived and walked towards the harbor, the beautiful vista of the harbor was before us. Lots of PALS arrived to capture the beauty of the North Shore on our paper and canvas. We also had a great time catching up and greeting new members, who are always welcome to join us. ...

Later some PALS enjoyed a wonderful lunch in town...nothing like fresh air and painting to bring on a good appetite!

The Lavender Farm 6/24/14

I will always love this wonderful location in the North Fork of Long Island.
I must admit, I also love every minute of the ride there.
This is a very special place, and I'm so happy PALS has been welcomed here.
We are having a late blooming season on Long Island, but the fields were purple, and the bee hives were buzzing, and the scent of Lavender filled the air.  on this beautiful summer day!

Plein Air Painting in the Adirondacks

While PALS were painting on beautiful Long Island, I hit the road with PALS artist Chris Taylor...we headed on a 7 hour journey to  Plein Air Magazine's Publishers Invitational in the Adirondacks. run by publisher Eric Rhoads.
The locations were spectacular, a painting every where you looked! We painted waterfalls, rivers, lakes, farms, houses, people, rocks, a church, an apple orchard ...non stop, morning noon and night! The only thing that made us stop was eating and sleeping!
We painted alongside 118 of the most amazing artists from across the USA. At the end of the week 820 paintings were on display. It was an awesome sight, and very inspiring!
I feel grateful that we were able to participate in such a fantastic painting experience...it was like PALSPleinAir on steroids!     We had an amazing time.

Jeanne, Eric, Chris, around the camp fire
How many artists can we fit on a rock?
The beauty of the Adirondacks was spectacular.  Painting along side so many incredible artists was both inspiring and humbling. This event was perfectly run by publisher Eric Rhoads and his family and team who attended to every detail.
There is nothing like being on location, having  everything taken care of, your housing, your meals, and your locations to paint, so you can just jump in and PAINT!

Thank you to Eric Rhoads and Plein air Magazine for all you do for artists and Plein Air!
